This competitive Science to Script Writer in Residency program supports mass media storytellers science works. The program admits one Writer in Residence each cycle. Residency’s timelines are based on the scope and timeline of each writer’s project.
The Writer in Residency program is located at the The Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID). WID is committed to discovering and inspiring through interdisciplinary research conducted in a dynamic, collaborative community. Housed within the award-winning Discovery Building, WID celebrates collaborations across campus, nationally and internationally. WID’s vast research areas within Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) provides a host of new pathways to support STEM entertainment. Programming focuses on connecting writers to scientists in the lab. Inspired by Method Acting techniques, Science to Script uses hands-on lab experiences for writers while creating an environment for science accuracy and creative muse through on-site fact checking and brainstorming with UW-Madison researchers.

At the Discovery Building on UW-Madison’s campus, you’ll have access to cutting-edge science research, the Discover Building facilities and office space.
- Residency Details:
Through immersive lab experiences, entertainment writers experience the culture, people, activities and substance of STEM at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. - Program Includes – lab assignment(s); Q&A with scientists, engineers or mathematicians; an office space at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery.
- Residency timeline is based on project scope and can range from one-month to one year. Residency timeline is flexible and determined based on writer and scientist availability.
